At the tail end of 2022 and the beginning of 2023, Gateway Metals made several updates and changes to its 50,000-sf warehouse and processing plant.
With the recent changes made, Gateway Metals now dedicates over 10,000-sf of its plant to its machining department which now includes (3) vertical CNC machines, (1) CNC Lathe, (2) 84” Blanchard grinders, (1) 60” Blanchard grinder, (3) Surface grinders and (2) large boring mills. “We made these moves recently because more and more of our customers are requiring the additional value-added machining. Squaring up blocks on 6 sides is a very common request now and being able to cut, square up and ship in 5-7 days or sooner is not uncommon,” says Dave Biscan, Gateway Metals president and co-owner. “We certainly appreciate all the support from our customers encouraging us to move in this direction. Instead of having 10-15% of our orders going through our shop machined, now 30-40% of our orders we process get machined,” says Biscan.
In addition to the machining area, Gateway has also added another plate saw to help in its saw cutting side. Now there are (5) plate saws in the plant.
Gateway Metals Inc operates 3-shifts, 24 hours a day, 5 days a week, including Saturday if needed. Gateway regularly stocks over 2 million pounds of tool steel and alloy in its St. Louis, Missouri facility.
